A-10 Thunderbolt with
Shark Face History: In October 1975, the first
production A-10A was delivered to
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz.
It was designed specially for the
close air support mission and had
the ability to combine large military
loads, long loiter and wide combat
radius, which proved to be vital
assets to America and its allies
during Operation Desert Storm. In
the Gulf War, A-10s, with a mission
capable rate of 95.7 percent, flew
8,100 sorties and launched 90
percent of the AGM-65 Maverick
missiles.
The A-10 Thunderbolt is also
known as the "Flying Gun",
"Tankbuster" or "Warthog". The
aircraft is simple, effective and
survivable twin-engine jet aircraft
that can be used against all ground
targets, including tanks and other
armored vehicles.
The US Air Force's A-10
Thunderbolt is a relatively slow but
highly maneuverable and heavily
armored plane, built for attacking
ground targets in support of troops.
Pilots of "pointy-nosed" fast jets tend
to look down on the slow, snub-
nosed A-10 - one joke being that its
airspeed indicator is a calendar. But
it can take off and land using short
runways and is able to loiter over a
battlefield, hunting for targets, in a
way that fast jets cannot.
*Alteration on the design such as change of paint schemes and markings or embodied features on our models occurs at any time. Detachable stand is included with the model which may vary from the photo.
