Boeing 727-200 Delta History:
The Boeing 727 is a mid-size, narrow-body, three-engine commercial jet airliner. It first flew in 1963 and for over a decade was the most produced commercial jet airliner in the world, with a total of 1,831 aircraft delivered.
The 727-200 was a stretched version of the 727-100. A ten-foot fuselage section was added in front of the wings and another ten-foot fuselage section was added behind them. The wing span and height remained the same on both the -100 and -200. The gross weight was increased from 169,000 to 209,500 pounds.
Delta Air Lines purchased Northeastern Airlines in 1972 to strengthen its market share in the northeastern United States. Through the purchase, Delta began its long Boeing 727 operation. In 2003, the airline retired its last 727.
