Boeing E-8 Joint Star History:

Cessna AT-17 Bobcat is a military version of the Cessna T-50 commercial tansport.  In 1940, it was designated as AT-8 when the US Army Air Corps ordered it as advanced trainers.  In 1942, the Bobcats were adopted by the Air Corps as personnel transport.  In 1943, delivery of the Bobcat took place and was designated as UC-78.  Bobcats that were transferred to the US Navy were designated as JRC-1s. 

The JRC-1 is a Navy light transport version of the UC-78.  It was also dubbed as "Bamboo Bomber" by the pilots that have flown the aircraft.  It was featured in one of the popular TV series "Sky King" of the 1940s and 1950s.  The primary users and operators of the Bobcat are the United States Army Air Corps, United States Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and the United states Air Force.  Postwar, Bamboo Bomber continued in service with Brazil and the Nationalist Chinese.
