History of the Gunship
C130 Hercules
The Hercules C130 military
transport aircraft was designed and
manufactured by Lockheed which
was introduced in December 1957.
It first flew on August 23, 1954. It is
able to use unprepared runways for
takeoffs and landings. Due to its
versatile airframe, a variety of roles
have been assigned to the Hercules
C130. It is used for search and
rescue, scientific research support,
weather reconnaissance, aerial
fueling, aerial firefighting, maritime
patrol, and airborne assault. It is
primarily used by The US Air Force,
US Marine Corps, and Royal Air
Force.
The Gunship C130 Hercules or
Lockheed AC-130 was nicknamed
''Angel of Death'' due to the shape its
anti-missile flares take. It was
manufactured by Lockheed but the
conversion into gunship was done
by Boeing. A variant of the C-130
Hercules, is solely used by the US
Air Force. It has a wingspan of
40.4m, length of 29.8m, and height
of 11.7m. Powered by four Allison
T56-A-15 turboprop engines, it could
reach a maximum speed of 300
mph. 13 crewmembers may board
the aircraft.
*Alteration on the design such as change of paint schemes and markings or embodied features on our models occurs at any time. Detachable stand is included with the model which may vary from the photo.
