Hawker Typhoon RAF History:
The Hawker Typhoon was used more as a tactical aircraft that was very effective at lower altitudes, and could haul a ton of bombs at high speed. 3,300 served in support of the ground troops in Europe.
The Typhoon was nicknamed "Tiffy" in the Royal Air Force slang. It became the World War II's most successful ground-attack aircraft. On the 6th of October 1939, the first Tornado flew with a 1,313 kW Vulture II. The RAF ordered 1000 aircrafts even though the Hawker Typhoon had not proven anything yet. Problems with the aircraft were discovered eventually.
On the 24th of February 1940, the Typhoon flew for the first time. The Typhoon looks like an updated Tornado. Many excellent things were expected from the Typhoon but the engine Sabre was proven unreliable. Its vibration was the particular problem.
The test flight for the Tornado and Typhoon continued until the summer of 1941. Early production of Typhoon, known as the Typhoon 1As, had twelve 7.7 millimeter machine guns. During the second production the Typhoon, known as the Typhoon 1B, had the four cannon extended beyond the leading edge of the wings that gave the aircraft an intimidating appearance.
