History of the Hercules HC-
130H USCG
The Hercules C130 military
transport aircraft was designed and
manufactured by Lockheed which
was introduced in December 1957.
It first flew on August 23, 1954. It is
able to use unprepared runways for
takeoffs and landings. Due to its
versatile airframe, a variety of roles
have been assigned to the Hercules
C130. It is used for search and
rescue, scientific research support,
weather reconnaissance, aerial
fueling, aerial firefighting, maritime
patrol, and airborne assault. It is
primarily used by The US Air Force,
US Marine Corps, and Royal Air
Force.
The Hercules C-130H model is
widely used by the US Air Force. It
has updated avionics, Allison T-56-
A-15 turboprop engines, and other
improvements. In 1964, first
deliveries began and production
continued until 1996. An improved
version of this model was
introduced in 1974. It is employed by
US Coast Guard for logistics,
homeland security, drug interdiction,
illegal migrant patrols, and long
range search and rescue.
