Bush features differ from other ships in the Nimitz class which includes a bulbous bow design which improves hull efficiency and reduces drag, passive jet blast defector for reduced maintenance costs, island designs for improved flight deck and reducing signature and electronic self-interference, aircraft pit stops, hangar bay, manpower reductions, reconfigurable spaces, expanded bandwidth, zonal electrical distribution systems and automation insertions.

On October 7, 2006, the USS George H. W. Bush was christened and delivery will be set by 2008.
