About the E-8 Joint Stars

Built by Northrop Grumman, the E-8 Joint STARS battle management and command and control aircraft was introduced in 1991. 17 were built costing $244.4million each in 1998. Developed from the Boeing 707, the E-8 Joint STARS can track ground vehicles and aircraft, collect imagery, and relay tactical pictures to ground and air theater commanders. Primarily used by the US Air Force and Air National Guard, it has a wingspan of 44.4m, length of 46.6m, and height of 13m. Powered by four Pratt and Whitney TF33-102C turbofan engines, the E- 8C has cruise speed of 722 to 945 km/hr.

The E-8C can respond quickly and effectively to support worldwide military contingency operations, capable of evaluating enemy situation by conducting ground surveillance. It is a jam-resistant system, able to operate despite experiencing heavy electronic countermeasures. The E-8 aircraft can stay airborne for 9 hours without refueling.
