The presidential air transport fleet consists of two specially configured Boeing 747-200B aircraft (tail numbers 28000 and 29000) with the Air Force designation VC- 25A. The term "Air Force One" is commonly applied to the VC-25As more generally. The term "Air Force One" applies only when the President is on board. The VC-25A is capable of flying 7,800 miles (12,600 km)—roughly one-third the distance around the world—without refueling and can accommodate more than 70 passengers. Each VC- 25A cost approximately US$325 million. These are among the most famous 747 models with tail numbers 28000 and 29000. The VC- 25 was first introduced August 23, 1990 (No. 28000) and on December 23, 1990 (No. 29000).
