PBM Mariner Model Airplane: A True Work of Art

Unbeatable museum quality best describes our handcrafted PBM Mariner model airplanes just like PBM real planes. After passing through the hands of master craftsmen, the parts are sanded and primed many times. Talented artists then paint on the intricate details with great accuracy. A final coat of clear lacquer protects the aircraft and gives it a glossy finish. Our PBM Mariner model airplane exhibits an unmatched quality and intricate design to obtain the exact look of the actual PBM Mariner.

The Mariner PBM comes with a handsome mahogany-based chrome pedestal, and undergoes various stages of quality control before being placed in its box. The Mariner PBM model plane is perfect as an addition to a growing collection or as an exquisite gift to a loved one. Each Mariner PBM model plane will surely be appreciated by aviation enthusiasts and hobbyists for it is truly a work of art that relives their memory of the actual plane.

PBM Mariner History:

Often eclipsed by the lore and fame of the PBY Catalina, the PBM Mariner nonetheless was an important aircraft performing anti-submarine patrols throughout the Atlantic and the South Pacific.

The PBM Mariner was used during World War II. It was a United States Navy Patrol bombing flying boat. There were 1,285 PBM Mariners that were built with the first one flying on February 18, 1939 and entering service in September 1940. The PBM Mariner was designed to complement the PBY Catalina.

The PBM Mariner has five gun turrets and bomb bays. The gull wing of the PBM Mariner was of cantilever design with featured clean aero dynamics with twin tail. The PBM Mariner 1 was equipped with retractable wing landing floats while the PBM-3 had fixed floats. More over the fuselage of PBM-3 was three feet longer than the PBM-1.

Thirty Two Mariners were acquired by the British Royal Air Force. The PBM Mariners assigned to them were not used operationally and some were returned to the United States Navy and twelve were transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force for the transporting and cargo. At the end of 1955, the Dutch Navy got seventeen PBM Mariners for service in former Dutch New Guinea. The PBM Mariner had been through few modifications and versions in its life span and served well wherever it was used.
