History of the SNJ Texan
Navy
The T-6 / SNJ was one of the
most important aircraft designs of all
time. This safe, reliable plane was
the most widely used advanced
trainer in WW II. The Texan was so
versatile that it performed as a
fighter, interceptor, and fighter-
bomber.
The T-6 Texan was used as a
forward air control aircraft in the
Korean and Vietnam wars. It was
designated "T-6 Mosquito". The
Royal Air Force operated the Harvard
aircrafts in Kenya for the Mau Mau in
1950s. They used 20-pound bombs
and machine guns on their foes. A
number of missions were in 20,000
altitudes and numerous countries
used the T-6 Texan aircrafts for
counter insurgency till 1970.
The T-6 Texan was designed by
a North American Aviation. It was
used by the USAAF, US Navy, RAF
and the military forces of the British
Commonwealth in World War II to
educate their fighter pilots. In World
War II, the T-6 aircraft had been a
usual partaker at air shows and was
used in some movies. It was still a
famous warbird aircraft. A total of
15,495 T-6 Texans were built.
