F-51D Mustang Korean War History:

The North American F-51D Mustang is one-seater bomber fighter aircraft powered by 1 x 1,590 hp Packard V-1650-7 piston engine. The F-51D’s speed is 703 kph (437 mph) and has a range 950km (1,529miles). The aircraft measures: 9.83m (32ft 3 in) in length, 11.29m (0.5 ft 0.5in) span. The F-51D Mustang has an empty weight of 3232 kg (7,125lb) and a maximum take-off weight of 5.262 (11,600lb).

When the SAAF volunteered to help the United Nations in Korea, 2 Squadron was equipped with USAF-owned F-51D Mustangs. Although flying in SAAF colours, these aircraft were never placed on the SAAF inventory and were handed back to the USAF when 2 Sqn in Korea were re-equipped with USAF F-86 Sabres. A total of 8,156 were built: 6,502 at Inglewood, 1,454 at Dallas and 200 by CAC at Fisherman's Bend, Australia.
