Unbeatable museum quality best describes our handcrafted model airplanes just like the A6E Intruder. After passing through the hands of master craftsmen, the parts are sanded and primed many times. Talented artists then paint on the intricate details with great accuracy. A final coat of clear lacquer protects the aircraft and gives it a glossy finish. Our A6E Intruder airplane model exhibits an unmatched quality and intricate design to obtain the exact look of the actual A6E Intruder.
A6E Intruder USAF History:
The Grumman A-6 Intruder is an American Carrier-Borne All-Weather Heavy Strike Aircraft primarily used by the U.S Navy and U.S Marine Corps. Designed to replace the A-1 Skyraider, the A-6 Intruder first flew on April 19, 1960 and got introduced to the public in 1963. A-6 Intruders first saw action during the Vietnam War, where the craft were used extensively against targets in Vietnam. The aircraft's long range and heavy payload (18,000 lb/8,170 kg) coupled with its ability to fly in all weather made it invaluable during the war. However, its effectiveness in flying low and delivering its payload made it especially vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire and in the eight years the Intruder was used, the U.S. Navy and Marines lost 84 Intruders to all causes during the Vietnam War.
The A-6E variant of the Intruder is also an all-weather, carrier based medium attack bomber. Its main task is to destroy both fixed and moving targets at sea or ashore in all weather conditions day or night. The A-6E was equipped with a microminiaturized digital computer, a solid state weapons release system, and a single, integrated track and search radar. The target recognition/attack multi-sensor (TRAM) version of the A-6E was introduced to the fleet in 1979. It was equipped with a chin turret containing a forward-looking infra-red (FLIR) system and a laser designator and receiver. The A-6E Intruder has a proud history with service in Vietnam, in Libya, and in Operation Desert Storm. The aircraft is capable of delivering up to twenty eight 500-pound bombs on target. It also has rocket and missile capability. The newest version of the Intruder, is the A-6E TRAM.
