B-57 Canberra History:

The B-57 Canberra is a bomber and reconnaissance aircraft manufactured by Martin and was developed from the English Electric Canberra. The B57 was identical to the English Canberra except for engines and equipment. The primary users and operators of the B 57 are the United States Air Force, Pakistani Air Force and the Republic of China Air Force.

The USAF Strategic Air Command used the B 57 from 1956 to 1962. Its maiden flight was in 1949. In mid 1954, the reconnaissance version of the B-57 entered service. The B-57 saw service in Vietnam and it was used recently by the Argentine Air Force in the undeclared war with Britain in the Falkland Islands. The B57's other roles include photoreconnaissance and strategic bombing. A total 0f 403 B 57s were built and in early 1957, production ended. It shall be noted that the B-57's accident rates are low compared to other aircraft.
