UH-34D Seahorse
USMC History:
UH-34D was a utility transport
version of the HSS-1 for the US
Marine Corps (USMC) and it was
initially designated as HUS-1 Sea
Horse (in its utility transport
configuration) before and it was
redesignated as UH-34D in
1962.
The US Marine Corps continued
to use the H-34 pattern even after
the US army had phased it
out. Even after the USMC
adopted their own version of the UH-
1, the UH-1E, the CH-34s up to and
for a period of time after the TET
Offensive in 1968. Marine
Corps H-34s were also among the
first gunship helicopters trialed in
theatre, being fitted the temporary
Kit-1 (TK-1), comprised of 4 M60C
machine guns and two 19 shot 2.75
inch rocket pods.
The UH-34D is a variant of H-34
and was manufactured by Sikorsky
Aircraft and its primary users are
United states Army and Us
Navy.
UH-34Ds roles included utility
transport, anti-submarine warfare,
search and rescue and VIP transport
and 54 UH-34Ds were built.
The HUS-1 Seahorse is a utility
transport version of the HSS-1 for
the US Marine Corps. It was
redesignated as UH-34d in 1962
and 462 were built.
