VH-71 Kestrel History:

The VH-71 Kestrel is a variant of the Agusta Westland EH101, being developed to replace the Marine One Presidential transport fleet of the United States Marine Corps. It is being produced by the "US101 Team" of Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego, Agusta Westland, and Bell Helicopter.

The VH-71 is a dual-piloted, multi-engine vertical takeoff and landing aircraft that will bring the latest vertical lift and command and control communication technology to the primary helicopter platform employed by Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1). It will be capable of operating day or night, in adverse weather worldwide, and in climates including arctic, desert, mountainous, littoral and tropical.

The first VH-71A Kestrel ready to transport the President is expected to be available in 2009.
